SPIN A WEB
Rules
The websites of participating teams will be judged on the following criteria -
- Originality - Greater preference will be given to the teams that incorporate their own ideas rather than emulating other websites. Though the teams may use the above-mentioned software's, use of in-built templates is not rated highly.
- Navigability - The website should have a logical navigation structure which encourages visitors to have a look around. Using abstract or unrelated words or images, as navigation tools, will adversely affect your score.
- Content - Though we do not expect the teams to include actual text and/or data, we do expect them to create all the necessary web pages, with each page describing its function and necessity. We will judge a website on the content which it will include as much as by the design.
- Overall presentation - Presentation will be judged not only on its originality but also on how well it "works" with the content to provide the user with a pleasant viewing experience. Use of good presentation elements, such as colour, fonts, tables, images etc., can enhance raw information on a website. Overuse or improper use of elements can result in a website being an eyesore. After all, presentation does reflect your style!
- Portability - Unfortunately, there is no standard browser today. Even the same browser can behave differently (and very weirdly, sometimes…:) on different systems. Hence, teams should try to make their websites work on various browsers. Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Opera are some of the browsers we will be testing the websites on.
- Standards Compliance - As a principle of good web designing, teams should strive to make their websites W3C standards compliant. However, it is not a necessity. Websites even without compliance are acceptable. However, standards compliant websites will be given higher preference.
