Among the various activities of IEEE-TSEC, the Industrial Visit is definitely one of the biggest and best things that happen. As the very aim of IEEE-TSEC is to go beyond academics in all possible ways, these visits have always offered insights to students about the practical applications of their theoretical knowledge. Of course, the enjoyment and the ecstatic moments in the company of peers come as the icing on the cake!
In keeping with our annual tradition, this year too we took our fellow members for an industrial-cum-fun visit. This year the tour was organized to Chandigarh, which is one of the most well planned cities in India and the ‘Queen of hill stations’-Shimla.
We started from Bandra Terminus, Mumbai on 21st March 2008. The students gathered at the station with their luggage all packed and their faces lit up with the anticipation of the ten thrilling days to come- knowledge to be gained, new friends to be made and exciting places to explore and discover!!
After the 28 hour long, but enjoyable journey, we reached Chandigarh and the tired students were given the rest of the day off to unpack, unwind and gear up for the fun-filled day that would dawn! On the next day we visited the various tourist places in Chandigarh like the pleasant Sukhna Lake where everyone enjoyed the ride in the Shikara and motor boats, following which we visited the Rock Garden which truly a work of great art and creativity!
We spent the next two days, visiting the various well-reputed industries in and around Chandigarh. We visited Unichem (a pharmaceutical company), Crompton and Greaves, Coca-Cola, Birla Textiles, AV Auto (an automobile industry) and Bhushan Power and Steel, all of which are in the top league in their respective fields. Industrial visits as these give the members on field experience about the industry they are going to work in. On the last day in Chandigarh, a surprise party was organized where everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly!
The following day, we left for Shimla which is one of the most beautiful hill stations in India. On our way to Shimla, we visited the majestic Pinjore Gardens near Chandigarh. We spent the next two days visiting the beautiful Kufri-Fagu Valley, exploring the beautiful locales of Shimla and shopping at the Mall Road. A campfire was organized on the last night which was the perfect ending to a really wonderful trip.
On the 29th we packed our bags and started on our return journey. The trip truly was an unforgettable experience –it had entertained, educated and enchanted us. But as we head back to our usual routines, the sweet memories of the visit will forever linger in our hearts.
