The IEEE COMMUNICATIONS SOCIETY spans a diverse group of engineering students from all branches who share a common interest of fostering growth in all aspects of communications sciences, engineering and new technologies, thus intermingling technical and non-technical events.
TECHNICAL FESTIVALS:
- NOVA : NOVA is conducted in the odd semesters of the academic year and is a one day event. There is a wide variety of workshops on Car Security, Mobile Security, and Transmitter Receiver. Previously there have been seminars on Cracking and Networking and events like F1 quiz and Stock mania and also a visit to the VSNL Headquarters in Mumbai.
- TECHNO : takes place in the even semesters. Last year TECHNO played host to seminars on Bluetooth technology and Augmented Reality. There has been a workshop on DJing and a seminar by IMS
PUBLICATIONS: The IEEE Communications magazine comes from the house of COMSOC and has a wide target audience. In some of the previous issues, the topics that have been dealt with are:
- RECENT ADVANCES IN COGINITIVE COMMUNICATIONS
- WIRELESS MESH NETWORKS
- NETWORK CENTRIC MILITARY COMMUNICATIONS
- 100 GIGABIT ETHERNET – DELIVERING THE PROMISE
- WIRELESS BROADBAND ACCESS
BENEFITS: COMSOC conducts ‘Bombay Industrial Trips’ [B.I.T.s], which has gone to VSNL and T.I.F.R in the previous years and enables its members to get in touch with professionals in the industry. The ‘IN HOUSE PROJECTS’ helps them sharpen their technical skills with projects like the display board in the college seminar hall and the P.C.O’s. installed in the college. Also, the seminars and workshops which are held during the course of the year help the members keep track of all the recent developments in technology. The festivals we organize, i.e. TECHNO and NOVA, help students develop their management skills as well.
Chairperson's Note:
After being associated with IEEE-TSEC COMSOC for the last 3 years, I can’t appreciate enough the contributions of this society to my life in an engineering college. A society that truly caters to the interests of all its members irrespective of their streams, COMSOC has time and again proven its importance. Be it the BITs or the In-House projects or the very interesting workshops, it has encouraged the creative and highly imaginative minds of our members to explore their own limits while advancing all communications innovations and technologies.
